The i-Player checks to see if the update is available, if it's OK to download it, it downloads the update and starts the update process, then it removes the error page and starts playing a message letting you know it's updating. It then goes back to the error page and presents a message saying the update was successful, it then drops back to the error page.
Once the update is successfully installed, the i-Player will start playing a message informing you it's done updating and that the update was successful. It will then drop back to the error page and will no longer play a message.
If you have a Linux TV box the i-Player only installs updates from the update server you have set up. This is because the i-Player is written in JavaScript and Linux TV boxes have problems with playing certain types of files. The update server is designed to work with i-Players running on Windows Media Center and Windows 7. It will generate a set of files that contain the update but will not install them because it can't run the installer.
