This book is the best book to follow if you're just starting out with Sketching. It is easy to follow the step-by-step sketches and full-color illustrations. However, this book does not have any illustrations. My personal favorite part of this book is the field guide section, where you can find tips, techniques and resources if you are struggling for studying on something. It's a great book to follow if you're looking for a concise and informative book.
For many people out there, creating characters is probably a hard task, especially during the initial drawing. But if you have a basic understanding of a character's anatomy; it will make your life much easier. This book is perfect to help you know what shapes, curves, and thin lines are the most important. These things must be designed first before you create the character's mass.
For those just starting out, it is not always necessary to show the behind-the-scenes process such as reflection and inspiration. You can just use the illustrations to study and then develop the character along with your own ideas. Greg Czech created a 'character development book' to provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to create unique characters. It is not just a book with illustrations and how-to's. His book has in-depth brainstorming process which greatly helps one face the problem of characters. He will get all the help you need from his experience, review, and illustrations.
Interested in animating? This book is perfect to give you a foundation knowledge of anatomy. You will be sure to find something to revive your zeal for animating.
