[ Rochester, NY ]: Bausch and Lomb Optical 1903-1904. A mostly brass Bausch and Lomb (B&L) microscope. The base has the characteristic B&L circular disk with serial number 43899 which allows us to date this instrument to 1903/1904. The body tube is not marked, nor is the horseshoe base. The eyepiece is a B&L marked eyepiece, marked 3/4 inch.It is approximately 12 inches tall, solid brass, and has a footprint of 4 x 6 inches. Mechanically the inclination features works well. The gross and fine focus mechanisms work cleanly. There are two objectives, both marked Spencer Lens Co. One marked 2 MM N. A. I. 30 Apochromat one one side and 90x on the other. The second objective is marked 4mm APO N.A.O.95. It has a number of markings on it (12, 18 and 24) with additional marks in between but there is no rotation I can figure out so not sure what that is for. I have not tested the optics, but the chassis is in functional condition and looks nice. The stage on this instrument was painted black, and is coming loose in a few places. I suspect if the next owner wanted to the paint could fairly easily be removed. The substage condensor is there, but needs cleaned. There is also an aperture iris which is working but a bit stiff. A great display piece or with another eyepiece and suitable objectives a working instrument. 827ec27edc
